Photo Safari Nov. 10 at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Friends of Crab Orchard would like to invite local nature photographers to join a photo safari on Saturday, November 10 at 7 a.m.

Participants can go behind the Refuge gates with a guide and visit several locations chosen just for their scenic beauty and potential to showcase wildlife. There will be ample time to explore, set up and photograph. This is not a class, but simply an opportunity to access the restricted portions of the refuge at a pace and time suited to photographers. You can bring your own camera and dress for a morning in the field. Meet at the Refuge visitor center on route 148 in Marion.

The H Group to host Bocce Tournament Sept. 20-21

HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - The H Group will host a Bocce Tournament Thursday, September 20 and Friday, September 21 as part of a charitable event.

The tournament will kick off Thursday with Client Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and finishes up Friday with the Corporate Day tournament (Mayors' Challenge) from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The mayors scheduled to compete in this year's event include Vic Ritter of Herrin, Bob Butler of Marion, Jim Harris of Thompsonville and Joel Fritzler of Carbondale.

In July 2012, the H Group merged with Southern Illinois Regional Social Services, forming the largest provider of behavioral health care services in Southern Illinois and one of the region's top 15 employers.

The Herrin Bocce Club is located at 300 West Walnut in Herrin.

Miners open parking lot up for tailgating Sept. 15

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Southern Illinois Miners will be opening up the parking lot of Rent One Park at 5 pm Saturday, September 15 for tailgating.

Saturday will be game three of the Frontier League Championship between the Southern Illinois Miners and the Florence Freedom. The gates will open at 5:45 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

KFVS12 WebCast announces 6th season fall schedule

(KFVS) - The Southeast Health WebCast on KFVS12.com has announced its sixth season fall schedule that begins Friday, August 24 with the Charleston vs. Sikeston high school football game live from Sikeston High School.

The new fall schedule that runs through November will include various Southeast Redhawk sports, parades, and a high school football game of the week series. Scheduled to be featured are (subject to change):

  • All Redhawk regular season home football games
  • SEMO Homecoming parade
  • 9 high school football games
  • 4 Redhawk soccer matches
  • 4 Redhawk volleyball matches
