Heartland Regional to hold groundbreaking for new ICU

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Heartland Regional Medical Center will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new ICU on Monday, September 12.

The ceremony will be at 2 p.m. at the south entrance of the hospital, road past the main entrance.

The ICU expansion project includes a 22,000 square foot, 18-bed, state-of-the-art ICU. The medical center says construction is expected to be finished in 11 months.

Cambria Christian Church to hold breakfast, yard sale

CAMBRIA, IL (KFVS) - The Cambria Christian Church will hold a breakfast and yard sale on Monday, September 5.

The breakfast will be from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the yard sale will be from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The breakfast will include scam bled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, milk, coffee and orange juice. The church says take outs are available.

Adults are $6.50 and children 10 and under are $3.50.

The church is located at 306 South Poplar Street in Cambria.

Illinois releases new travel app

DUQUOIN, IL (KFVS) - A new mobile application can help fairgoers to the DuQuoin State Fair.

The Enjoy Illinois mobile app is the state's official mobile travel and lifestyle guide for travelers across Illinois.

It allows access to more than 10,000 statewide listings including accomodations, dining, attractions, events, deals, and more.

Features of the Enjoy Illinois app include:

  • Near Me navigation: Utilizes location-based/GPS searches to view attractions nearby and filter listings by interest.
  • Browse by Interest:  Organizes the listings by category so users can view attractions based on interests, such as Accommodations, Arts & Culture, Attractions, Dining and Nightlife.
  • Browse by Region:  Enables exploration of listings by region.
  • My Trips feature:  Allows user to create a custom itinerary list to share via social media (Twitter, Facebook) or by email.

Mother, daughter tea at Carterville Community Center

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The Women's Center will be hosting a Mother and Daughter Tea on August 7.

The tea will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carterville Community Center located at 120 North Greenbriar

Cristaudo's will be catering and the tea will include music, a raffle and shopping.

The center will also hold a centerpiece competition. Participating ladies are encouraged to create a centerpiece for their table and the winning designer will get two tickets to the annual Taste of Chocolate event on February 3, 2012.

The raffle will feature two tickets to the Little Black Dress Party on September 9 at Walker's Bluff.

Community of Faith Church to host yard sale

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Community of Faith Church will hold a yard sale on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6.

The yard sale will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day and will be located in the church gym.

All proceeds from the yard sale will go to the renovation of their children's ministry wing.

The church is located at 5208 Meadowland Parkway on the southeast side of Route 148 about 100 yards south of the Route 13 and Route 148 Intersection.

Walk-in immunization clinics available in August

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Franklin Williamson Bi-County Health Department will offer walk-in immunization clinics every Wednesday in August.

The clinics will be every Wednesday in August from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with no appointment needed.

The Franklin County office is located at 403 East Park in Benton and the Williamson County office is located at 8160 Express Drive in Marion.

If those days don't work, the Bi-County Health always gives immunizations by appointment at the Benton office on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-in late clinics are offered the first and third Tuesday of each month from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Immunizations at the Marion office are given by appointment on Mondays and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-in late clinics are also offered the first and third Thursdays of each month from 4 p.m.

Sheriff's Dept. taking applications for Citizen's Police Academy

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick announced Wednesday the department will be taking applications for the next Citizen's Police Academy.

The free police academy will start Thursday, August 25 and will meet every Thursday night until November 10. The classes will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the class size will be limited to 25 people.

Class content includes:

  • Discussions on hiring, training, equipment, domestic violence, investigations and crime scene processing
  • Traffic enforcement and stops
  • Controlled substances and gangs
  • Use of force issues
  • Firearm safety and familiarization
  • Criminal law and court proceedings
  • Jail operations and a jail tour
  • Information from the Williamson Co.
