Lawmaker wants more restrictions on military funeral protesters | News
SPRINGFIELD, IL (KFVS)- An southern Illinois lawmaker is backing legislation that puts more restrictions on those who protest military funerals.
Rep. John Bradley (D-Marion) is supporting legislation that expands the state's "Let Them Rest in Peace" law.
"When a member of our military gives his or her last measure of devotion to our country, we owe surviving family members the ability to grieve in peace," said Bradley. "All families, especially Gold Star families, have the fundamental right to mourn the loss of a loved one without being harassed in the process."
House Bill 2916 would expand the protest buffer zone to 1,000 feet and prevent protests during to or 30 minutes prior to a funeral.
