Fire dept. says cause of Herrin duplex fire undetermined
HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - The cause of a duplex fire in Herrin Friday night is still undetermined.
According to fire fighter Ryan Rash, a fire broke out at the duplex on East Taylor Street around 9 p.m. He says nobody was home at the time and a passerby called in the fire after seeing smoke.
Rash said there was a woman and her son home at the other half of the duplex at the time, but they were able to make it out safely.
One half of the duplex had moderate fire, smoke and water damage and the other half had minor water damage. Both families are staying with other family members.
The fire is still under investigation.
