HERRIN, IL (KFVS)- Four-legged friends got a
boost from some Herrin school kids on Thursday.
Children from Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel School brought in donations of pet supplies to donate to the Marion Regional
Humane Society.
It's to celebration the feast
day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
Shelters say they really
needed the supplies, and the kids say they were happy to help.
"I just felt kind of
bad for them," said seventh grader Madi Cerutti. "You kind of think
if they don't have a home, they feel sad."
"We need it desperately,"
said Debby Choate, Marion Humane Society. "That's a mild way to say it.
Anybody working in the rescue will tell you that the need for this is so great."
Earlier in the morning,
kids and community members brought their pets out in front of the church for a
special blessing.
School officials say they
had dogs, cats, ferrets and even birds blessed.
