CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS)- It is National Child Passenger Safety Week in Illinois, and the state wants to make sure kids are buckled up and safe when riding in cars.
The campaign calls attention to the need to properly secure kids in car or booster seats and to make sure they buckle up.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says car crashes are the leading cause of death for children through age 12, and proper restraint could reduce chances of death by 54% in toddlers.
On Saturday, experts will give hands-on inspections of child seats at 80 events across Illinois, including some in the Heartland.
Those towns include Herrin, Mt. Vernon, Marion, Carbondale, and Harrisburg.
