Friday is National Wear Red Day for the AHA

(KFVS) - The American Heart Association is reminding everyone to wear red on Friday, Feb. 3 for National Wear Red Day.

The AHA says this is the day hundreds of thousands of men and women remember the women who lost their lives to heart disease and pledge to fight this number one killer of women.

"Walk Across Illinois Challenge" encourages residents to get healthier

(KFVS) - The "Walk Across Illinois Challenge" was announced today and encourages Illinoisans to walk 167 miles during 2012 to improve their own health.

Former Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls players, schoolteachers and students joined Governor Quinn to launch the program, which is designed to help Illinois residents get healthier by adding a half-mile of walking to their daily routines, which is roughly the distance across Illinois from Rock Island on the Mississippi River to Chicago on Lake Michigan.

Residents can accept the "Walk Across Illinois Challenge" by visiting www.WalkAcrossIllinois.org, where they can register and log their miles.

Marion, Herrin boil water orders lifted

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Several areas in Southern Illinois issued boil orders on Tuesday, Jan. 10 that have now been lifted.

The Coal Valley Water District lifted their boil water order for customers. The order was lifted at 1:42 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The city of Herrin also lifted their boil order on Thursday for all Herrin water customers.

The city of Marion lifted their boil order at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 for all water customers.

The boil order for the Village of DeSoto was also lifted Thursday.

The order was issued at 10 p.m.  Tuesday, Jan. 10 until further notice.

City of Marion issues boil order

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The city of Marion has issued a boil water order for all city water consumers.

The boil order is effective from 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 until further notice.

The city also urgers all water customers to conserve their water usage until further notice.

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Coal Valley Water District says all their customers are under a boil water order until further notice.

The boil order was issued Tuesday, Jan. 10 around 2 p.m.

Pink out at Herrin High School

Pink out at Herrin High School

HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - The second annual "Shoot for a Cure" at Herrin High School will be held on February 11th.

Herrin High School's Student government and Student Chamber are hosting the event to raise awareness about cancer in Southern Illinois. The pink out will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Herrin High School Memorial Gymnasium as the boys' basketball team takes on the Murphysboro Red Devils.

A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Williamson County. During the game, there will be a silent auction, concessions, and a half-time ceremony that will honor cancer survivors, current patients, and their families.

Pink t-shirts are available for preorder until January 20th. There will be a few t-shirts available for purchase at the game.
