Fowler-Bonan Foundation receives $1,000 check

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Fowler-Bonan Foundation received a $1,000 check from a Marion company in support of its "Clothes for Kids" program.

The Fowler-Bonan Foundation provides new clothing and shoes for underprivileged school children throughout southern Illinois.

“Aisin is proud to be a part of the Southern Illinois community and strives to be a good corporate citizen," said Aisin Mfg. Illinois president Fumihiko Sugiura. "In doing so, we are pleased to support activities like the Fowler-Bonan Foundation. We hope this will help children in need.”

The foundation annually helps more than 300 children in 11 southern Illinois counties.

“We are honored to receive this support from Aisin-Illinois,” foundation board chairman Dale Fowler said.  “We are thankful that Mr. Sugiura and all the fine folks at Aisin Mfg. Illinois, LLC deemed our charitable mission worthy of their support.”

Entries for the Jr. Duck Stamp Contest due by March 15

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now accepting entries for the 2013 Illinois Junior Duck Stamp Contest, which is administered by the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.

Entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2013.

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program is unique in its blending of science and art. It engages children in the study of waterfowl and habitat conservation as well as migration. The program guides students, using scientific and wildlife observation principles, to communicate visually what they have learned through an entry in their state’s Junior Duck Stamp art contest.

This conservation education program is open to any child in kindergarten through high school. Southern Illinois teachers can contact the Refuge about outreach programs and resources, offered free of charge, in support of the Junior Duck Stamp program.

Annual Men's Health Conference returns to Southern Illinois on March 23

Annual Men's Health Conference returns to Southern Illinois on March 23

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The Fifth Annual Southern Illinois Men’s Health Conference will take place on Saturday, March 23 at John A. Logan College in Carterville.

It is a unique event and one that many people said could never exist. They did not think that men would devote even a half day to issues concerning their health. The men who have attended the previous conferences have been fathers and sons, golf buddies, church friends, and strangers who met at the conference. Almost all of them leave the conference thinking that it was a morning well spent.

“Fitness and Aging” is the theme of this year’s event, co-chaired by Kevin Hunsperger and Herman Louw. The day begins with blood screenings. Other health screenings including skin cancer, vision, hearing, dental, foot, and blood pressure are available.
