Annual fundraiser a huge success

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - Members of the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children are celebrating.

According to Jo Poshard, they raised $120,000 during this year's annual fundraiser. The event is the primary fundraiser for the Foundation each year.

The group helps abused, neglected, and abandoned children. They help by providing counseling, cribs, baby quilts, paying for special camps, providing supplies for college-bound foster children, and training for the prevention of violence against children.

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The United Way of Southern Illinois has released their holiday wish list.

Items include things like bedding and food.

The agency is located at 1301 Enterprise Way, the shopping mall attached to Rural King.

4-H Day with the Rams

4-H Day with the Rams

BENTON, IL (KFVS) - 4-H members, alumni, and their families are invited to participate in the 2011 4-H Day with the Rams.

It will take place on Sunday, December 18th, 2011 at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. The Rams will take on the Cincinnati Bengals at noon. Tickets are $40 each, which is a $15 discount on regular ticket prices.

Each ticket comes with a $10 voucher for food and drinks at the dome as well as a 4-H day with the Rams souvenir t-shirt. For orders of 10 or more tickets, each person receives an additional $10 food and drink voucher.

There are a limited number of seats available, for 4-H families are encouraged to order tickets soon.

IDOL offers haunted house safety tips

IDOL offers haunted house safety tips

(KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Labor is offering some safety tips for haunted house enthusiasts.

The department is encouraging residents to wear bright clothing and follow safety rules.

“We want to make sure that individuals, who bravely enjoy a good scare at haunted houses, do so safely,” said IDOL Director Joe Costigan.  “We urge parents and kids to read safety signs to ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween.”

IDOL suggests the following tips to stay safe:

  • Check for an Illinois Department of Labor 2011 permit sticker
  • Read all signage before entering a haunted house and listen to your guide for directions
  • Pay attention to the location of exits in the haunted house
  • Stay on the approved path of travel and be cautious on or near stairs
  • Do not smoke, use lighters or matches
  • Wear bright-colored clothing and avoid loose-fitting clothing that could snag on props
  • Be aware that strobe

CSS: 50-75 mining jobs coming to Southern Ill.

CSS: 50-75 mining jobs coming to Southern Ill.

(KFVS) - Custom Staffing Services says they plan to hire 50 to 75 coal miners for several mines in Southern Illinois in the next 30 days.

Qualified candidates can apply at the CSS job fair at Black Diamond Harley Davidson in Marion, Ill. on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CSS says candidates can also stop by the Customer Staffing office at 1820 North Green River Road, Evansville, Ind., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CSS says candidates must have their mining certificates.
