Ponytail Drive Oct. 20 to benefit Breast Cancer 5K walk/run

MARION, IL (KFVS) - You can donate your hair at a ponytail drive on Saturday, October 20 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run.

The drive will be at Harry Crisp Sports Complex, directly southwest of Marion High School. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. and the ponytrail drive will take place just before the 5K around 8 a.m. The Hair Brains Salon of Carbondale stylists will be on hand to cut the donated hair.

Organizers say the donated hair is made into wigs for people experiencing side effects of cancer treatment. Hair requirements include:

  • Cut ponytail must be 8 inches long
  • Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and sem-permanent dyes
  • Hair may not be more than 5 percent gray

They say anyone ages 16 or younger must be accompanied by a guardian.

For more information, you can call 618-319-0724 at Marti Ryder or Alli Arvanis at 618-998-9898 option 3.
