Williamson Co. deputies investigating home invasion, robbery

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home invasion and robbery that occurred overnight in the Village of Colp.

On May 7, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call from a resident in Colp. The caller told them his neighbor had been tied up inside the neighbor’s home and had just gotten loose.

Deputies responded to the home on Johnson Street in Colp. They say the investigation showed an unknown black male had broke into the home while 70-year-old Joecephus Mitts, Jr. was sleeping. 

According to officers, Mitts was awakened by the suspect around 2:15 a.m. The suspect bound the Mitt's legs and hands, and then ransacked the home. They say the suspect left with numerous items belonging to the victim.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick says two suspects have been arrested and charged with burglary.

On April 29 around 7:55 a.m. Williamson County deputies were dispatched to the Four Star Arena on Route 166, north of Creal Springs. They say the reporting party said he had located items outside the building that made him believe the building had been broken into.

Deputies say they arrived and began to search the building. As they searched, two white males ran from the rear of the building and into a nearby woodline.

A Williamson County canine unit arrived and began to track the suspects. According to officers, one suspect was found in a pasture north of the building. The canine unit tracked the other suspect through a wooded area and into the Saline Creek. The canine unit resumed the track on the north side of the creek and located the second suspect hiding in the creek, partially in the water.

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Marion Police Department says two suspects are facing charges after several vehicles burglarized at a movie theatre on January 20.

Joseph B. Barnaby, 23, and Richard G. Kipping, 20, both of Marion, Illinois, were taken into custody on January 23 and charged for their involvement.

A further investigation has resulted in the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s Office issuing additional charges against Barnaby and Kipping for their involvement vehicle burglaries at the AMC Centre 8.

Both Barnaby and Kipping were taken to the Williamson County Jail.

Police say they responded to the report around 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 at the AMC Centre 8's parking lot. When they arrived, police say they talked to seven separate victims who had their vehicles broken into.

Crab Orchard man arrested after allegedly attacking stepfather with knife

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Crab Orchard man was arrested Tuesday, January 29 after a domestic disturbance.

Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick says Zachery T. Fear, 22, was arrested in the early morning after he allegedly attacked his stepfather Kevin Dillon, 41, with a knife at their home.

According to Vick, Dillon sustained serious injury during the disturbance, and was taken to a St. Louis-area hospital.

He said Fear fled the scene, but was found at the Butler High Rise in Marion. He was taken into custody without incident.

Fear is being held at the Williamson County Jail on charges of Aggravated Domestic Battery pending his first court appearance.

Marion woman charged with embezzling funds from City Water Dept.

MARION, IL (KFVS) - A Marion woman was indicted by a grand jury and charged with three counts of embezzlement and theft.

Linda Heyde, 59, faces a statutory maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and mandatory restitution. Stephen R. Wiggins, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois says the indictment also seeks forfeiture of $524,100 in criminal proceeds.

The indictment alleges that Heyde, from 1996 through May 2012, engaged in a scheme to defraud the City of Marion Water Department while she was the water department's manager. Heyde had primary control over the billing accounts.

According to Wiggins, the indictment alleges that the Marion Police Department was advised that Heyde was handling the water department's deposit funds in a suspicious manner and that daily bank deposits did not contain cash.

BENTON, IL (KFVS)  -  A federal grand jury in Benton, Illinois, has charged 17 individuals with methamphetamine related offenses, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced Wednesday.
