CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Southern Illinois residents will witness an amazing sight Friday, July 19, when the Commemorative Air Force’s famous Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber "FIFI" – the only remaining flying example of the aircraft in the world – flies into the Southern Illinois Airport at Carbondale.
FiFi will be accompanied by a B-24 Liberator "Diamond Lil," and a P-51 Mustang.
Other historic military airplanes accompanying the B-29 include the only flying Curtiss SB2C Helldiver and a B-25 Mitchell Bomber "Show Me." Other attending aircraft include a C-45 Expeditor, DC-3, T-6 Texan and PT-13 Stearman.
The aircraft will be on display at the Carbondale airport until Saturday morning when they will move to Williamson County Regional Airport for rides and static display Saturday and Sunday.
