HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - The Rotary Club of Herrin will be having its 60th Annual Chicken Barbeque on Friday, September 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The chicken will be cooked that day at the Herrin Civic Center. Members of the Herrin Rotary Club are selling tickets for a donation of $7.50 each
The Rotary Barbeque will be a choice of eat-in dining or carry-out at the Herrin Civic Center at 101 South 16th Street. Eat-in dining service will be begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. Carry-out service will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The meal includes baked beans, cole slaw, and a dinner roll will be served along with a 1/2 barbequed chicken. Herrin Rotarians will be serving about 800 BBQ Chickens meals total. The Herrin Civic Center will be selling soda to drink.
The Annual BBQ revenue provides the main fund-raising effort for the Herrin Rotary Club, which donates the funds back to various community groups and charities. The club also contributes to Rotary International Projects which includes the elimination of Polio worldwide. The Herrin Rotary Club has been serving the Herrin Community since 1922. The Rotary International Motto is “Service above Self!”
Rotary International is 107 Years old. Rotary had its Centennial Celebration in February 2005. Paul Harris established the first Rotary Club in Chicago, Illinois in 1905. The first ever Rotary Club meeting was held on Feb. 23, 1905 in Chicago. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In 166 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs. Rotary International has been leading the quest to eradicate Polio worldwide. Currently, there are only three countries still reporting cases of polio.
