Fundraising event for Wright-Way Rescue Sept. 7 | Community Spirit
CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - A benefit 5K walk/run and fundraising event will be held for Wright-Way Rescue, southern Illinois’ largest no-kill shelter.
The 2nd annual Howl at the Bluff event is planned for Saturday, September 7, at Walker’s Bluff in Carterville, Illinois. Wright-Way Rescue is hosting Howl at the Bluff to raise awareness of the number of homeless animals being euthanized in the Midwest and to inform the community on how to assist with the organization’s mission. Funds are being raised to assist with quality care for animals on their journey to adoption.
Howl at the Bluff’s 5K Race will be held at 10 a.m and the Nature Walk will be held 10:15 a.m. at Walker’s Bluff on September 7. The event will continue at 6:30 p.m., which will feature an adoption event, children’s games and inflatables, dog games, food, raffles, and a silent auction. The free showing of Disney’s “Lady and the Tramp” will be held at dusk. Pre-registration for the 5K Race and Nature Walk is $25 and registration on the day of event is $30. Entrance to the evening benefit is free.
The public can register for the race at https://www.firstgiving.com/wrightwayrescue/HowlAtTheBluff.
Wright-Way Rescue was founded in 2003, and the organization is celebrating 10 years of operation this year. In 2012, Wright-Way Rescue saved approximately 4,000 animals that would have otherwise been euthanized, and it is on track of saving 4,500 in 2013. Wright-Way Rescue continued its mission last year by opening a low-cost veterinary clinic that provides affordable veterinary care and spay/neuter surgeries to all members of the community.
“Wright-Way Rescue wants to encourage the entire community to attend Howl at the Bluff and to inform them of the impact no-kill shelters are making in southern Illinois,” said Jacoby Duckworth, the Howl at the Bluff Event Coordinator. “One-hundred percent of the profits from the event will assist with saving the lives of more animals.”
