MARION, IL (KFVS) - The 44th annual Illinois State Quartet Convention will be held on May 30, 31 and June 1 beginning at 6:30 each evening at the Marion Civic Center, Tower Square Plaza in downtown Marion.

National gospel music groups Jeff & Sheri Easter, The Kingsmen Quartet and The Lesters will headline this years event along with the host group, The Nehrkorns. 

Nineteen other groups from Illinois will also be participating.

MARION, IL (KFVS) - Author Ruth Teal will be available to sign copies of her book "Uncomplicated" on May 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Teal is a resident of Marion, Ill.

In "Uncomplicated," Ruth Teal takes experiences from her life and connects them to biblical concepts. Ruth covers a range in topics--many funny, many thought provoking. Throughout her day, Ruth is able to find God’s presence in everything. Each section is its own short story, so keep it in your purse for on-the-go reading. Whether you’re cozying up on the couch with a cup of tea, or reading on the run, "Uncomplicated" will lighten your spirit and inspire your day.

The book signing will be at Hats off to Mom's, Harvest Church Of Southern Illinois 602 E. Davie St. Ann, Ill.

Website launch party for 2013 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

MARION, IL (KFVS) -  Planning for the 2013 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Southern Illinois is well under way.

There will be a website launch party on Tuesday, May 21 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

The party will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

It's a good time to register for the 2013 event.

There will be a tutorial on the website along with 2013 event details.

Appetizers will be provided by the Strides Committee.

Hospice of Southern Illinois chosen as finalist 'Grow St. Louis' program

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KFVS) - Hospice of Southern Illinois has been chosen as finalist in Monsanto, Grow St. Louis program.

On Monday, May 6,  Hospice of Southern Illinois Hospice was selected as a finalist in the Monsanto, Grow, St. Louis program.

Organizers say the program offers not-for-profit organizations grant money up to $20,000.

28th Annual Fishing Expedition for Special Populations held at Bleyer Lake

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The 28th Annual Fishing Expedition for Special Populations was held Wednesday, May 8 at Bleyer Lake.

More than 1,300 Special Population youngsters and adults, volunteers, and staff lined the shores of Bleyer Lake for this event. They spent the day fishing and were provided a picnic lunch. All of the fishing equipment is provided free of charge to the participants.

Bleyer Lake is located 1.5 miles south of Midland Inn, just off Country Club Road.

The participants came from southern Illinois schools and sheltered workshops in Jackson, Williamson, Union and other surrounding counties.

The event began at 9 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m.

Volunteers for the Fishing Expedition helped participants with their fishing equipment, baited fishing hooks and encouraged their efforts.
