44th annual Illinois State Quartet Convention, May 30, 31 and June 1

 

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The 44th annual Illinois State Quartet Convention will be held on May 30, 31 and June 1 beginning at 6:30 each evening at the Marion Civic Center, Tower Square Plaza in downtown Marion.

National gospel music groups Jeff & Sheri Easter, The Kingsmen Quartet and The Lesters will headline this years event along with the host group, The Nehrkorns. 

Nineteen other groups from Illinois will also be participating.

Parade of Quilts Celebration April 24-27

WHITTINGTON, IL (KFVS) - The Parade of Quilts Celebration will be April 24 through 27 at the Southern Illinois Art and Artisans Center.

Each year the Artisans Center offers a display of unique art quilts created by members of the Illinois Artisans Program. These exceptional quilts encompass both traditional and modern designs and offer a lively look into the art of contemporary quilt making.

The center is located at 14967 Gun Creek Trail in Whittington, Ill.

LEAA Arts Center in Marion to host free Art Workshops

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Little Egypt Arts Association, Inc. is offering free art workshops at the LEAA Arts Center in Marion.

Interested students should bring items listed for each workshop. They can bring a sack lunch or snack. Workshops are limited to 15 students and pre-registration is required.

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - Ladies of all ages are invited to the Carterville Community Center for a Mother & Daughter Tea to benefit The Women’s Center.

Organizers say the event will be held on on Sunday,  April 28,  from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Women’s Center serves seven counties in southern Illinois ~ Franklin, Jackson, Johnson, Perry, Saline, Union and Williamson. 

New this year is  a silent auction, story time for the youngest ladies, and the Mother’s Day Marketplace.

Cristaudo’s will be catering the event. Entertainment for the tea will be 14-year-old singer/songwriter Hannah Herron, and Southern Illinois Dance Company.

Little Egypt Arts Association accepting registration for photography class

 

MARION, IL (KFVS) - Little Egypt Arts Association is announcing that late-start registration is being taken for the newest photography class.

The class will be with Rene F. DeGroof at the Arts Centre in downtown Marion.

The next class in on Monday, April 22, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Interested students can call the Arts Centre at 618-998-8530 to register, or are welcome to register the night of the class.

Class fee is $50. Rene also teaches photography at John A. Logan College.

Organizers say this class is designed for beginners using their camera at home or on trips.

Marion arts center to host 2 exhibits through Feb.

Marion arts center to host 2 exhibits through Feb.

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The LEAA Arts Centre in downtown Marion is hosting two exhibits through the month of February.

“Learning Curves” shows both early and recent works created by LEAA members. These pieces include paintings, fiber art, woodworking, and more. This show will run through the end of March. LEAA member Michelle Fredman has a solo display of artistic photography on the north wall, and is also the north window Artist of the Month.

Both shows can be viewed during regular open hours: Monday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
